The death of Jesus brought about our redemption as believers. It is important for us to know that
the believers have been redeemed from three things by virtue of the death of our Lord Jesus
Christ:
- Sickness and diseases. Isaiah 53:5, Mathew 8:17, 1 Peter 2:24
- Poverty. 2 Cor 8:9
- Spiritual (second) death.
 What is the Second Death?
The second death is often understood as eternal separation from God, associated with the lake of
fire (Revelation 20:14). Through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, believers have been
redeemed from the second death. Here are key scriptures that relate to this truth:
- Revelation 20:14-15 (KJV)
“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
The second death = eternal separation from God.
It is the final judgment for those not saved through Christ.
✅ Scriptures That Prove Believers Are Redeemed from It
- Revelation 2:11 — Believers Will Not Be Hurt by the Second Death
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall
not be hurt of the second death.”
“Overcomers” = those who believe in Jesus (see 1 John 5:4-5).
We are immune to the second death through faith. - Revelation 20:6 — The Second Death Has No Power Over the Redeemed
“Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no
power…”
Those raised with Christ (first resurrection) are exempt from the second death.
This “first resurrection” includes spiritual rebirth now, and eternal resurrection later. - John 5:24 — Eternal Life Means No Judgment or Death
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath
everlasting life,
and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
Believers already passed from death to life.
No fear of final judgment (second death) remains. - Romans 8:1–2 — No Condemnation in Christ
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus… For the law of the Spirit
of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
We are free from the law of sin and death.
“No condemnation” means we will not experience the second death. - 1 John 5:11-12 — Eternal Life Through the Son
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”
Having Jesus = having eternal life = no part in the second death. - Hebrews 9:27-28 — One Judgment, Not Two Deaths
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he
appear… without sin unto salvation.”
Because Christ bore our sin, we face salvation, not condemnation.
The second death is not our destiny.
The second death is real, but not for believers.
Jesus redeemed us from its power through His death and resurrection.
If your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Rev. 21:27), you are eternally secure.
As powerful as the death of Christ is, however, the resurrection is much more powerful. Below is a
list of the benefits of His resurrection.
- The Resurrection is the Foundation of the Christian Faith
Explanation:
The resurrection is not a secondary doctrine—it is the very heart of Christianity. Without it, Jesus
would have been just another martyr. The resurrection proves He is the Son of God and validates
everything He said and did.
Scripture:
1 Corinthians 15:17 – “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.”
Romans 1:4 – “And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of
holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.”
The Apostle Paul emphasizes that if Jesus had not risen, our preaching and faith are in vain. But
because He did rise, we have a living hope and the assurance that sin and death are defeated.
- The Resurrection Fulfils Prophecy and Validates Christ’s Identity
Explanation:
Jesus repeatedly told His disciples He would rise on the third day (Matt. 16:21, John 2:19). His
resurrection fulfilled Old Testament prophecies and His own words, proving He truly is the promised
Messiah.
Scripture:
Psalm 16:10 – “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One
to see corruption.”
Luke 24:44-46 – “…that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses,
and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me… and that repentance and remission
of sins should be preached in his name among all nations.”
The resurrection was not an afterthought. It was God’s plan all along, foretold through prophets and
fulfilled in Christ. - Believers Share in His Resurrection – A New Identity
Explanation:
When Jesus rose from the dead, He didn’t just win a personal victory—He brought all believers into
new life with Him. Resurrection isn’t only about going to heaven one day; it’s about walking in
newness of life now.
Scripture:
Romans 6:4-5 – “…just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father,
we too may live a new life… we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection
